REBELLION is a bi-weekly history podcast that blows the cobwebs off of The American Revolution. Each episode explores a different American hero who made a major contribution to our fight for independence and our larger national identity.

The Story of REBELLION

Map of New York and New England by Brion de la Tour, 1777
I thought of the idea for REBELLION after teaching a history lesson to my 4th grade class about The Revolutionary War. After the lesson was over, they were clamoring for more stories from that period. Not one to let down my students, and reluctant to begin my unit on helping-verbs, I gathered them all at the carpet, where I regaled them with the story of Nathan Hale. Maybe they were all jacked up on cookies from lunch the previous period, or maybe it was because a school bearing his name sits just up the street, but whatever it was, my students couldn't get enough.

And so began a weekly ritual. Soon, my class couldn't wait for Fridays to arrive so they could hear another story. After a month of telling some of my favorites (Sybil Ludington's Ride, John Adams and The Boston Massacre, and my boy Baron Von Steuben), it dawned on me that I could record these stories and share them with others. Whether you're a history buff yourself, a student, a teacher looking to spice up their curriculum, or completely new to these stories, I can guarantee that they will fill you with a newfound pride in your country's history, and create a connection between the past and the present that you may have never considered.

Happy listening!
